On Friday night members of the Whitby-Oshawa Young Liberals attended a fantastic presentation (hosted by the Whitby-Oshawa Greens) by Derek Forgie of “Heterosexuals for Same-Sex Equality.” The presentation, which did briefly touch on a recent homophobic article published by one of Oshawa’s newspapers, helped introduce the organization and was meant to “comically roast” ten common homophobic statements that are uttered far too frequently. Members of the WOYL have attended events held by the Queer Liberals in the past and we, as an organization, hope to work as allies of the LGBTQ-rights movement.
PFLAG Durham is holding a Silent Protest against homophobia in Oshawa, Wednesday evening that the Whitby-Oshawa Young Liberals will be attending. (More information about the “No Hate – Durham rally” can be found here.)
